Bedgebury British Blues

Bedgebury Blues was established in 2005 with the purchase of Ridge Dean Auntie ET, a daughter of Dafydd D’Ochain out of Ridge Dean Victoria, who is by Osborne Van Terbeck out of the great Ridge Dean Jessie.

Auntie was purchased privately from Michele Wilde as a calf where she was greatly admired for her striking spotty markings, incredible growth for age, length and locomotion. She has had a successful show career as a yearling and two year old heifer taking tickets at the Royal show and Royal Welsh and may feature in the Bedgebury show team in 2010 with her March 2010 Bluegrass Cyclone-sired heifer calf Bedgebury Footie at foot.

Her first calf Bedgebury Davina, born unassisted, is a daughter of the much admired Bringlee Volkawagon and will likely be shown next year as a two year old heifer.

From then we purchased the brood cow Wold Newton Tabasco bred by Mrs Mason, Driffield, East Yorkshire.  This 2001 cow is by Histon D’Embise out of Wold Newton Merry. Her first calf Bedgebury Booterlishus, sired by Philipper De Remichampagne was sold as a yearling heifer to Andrew Bishop in Chelford.

Her recent calf Bedgebury Echo born in May 2009 is a daughter of the powerful and stylish Empire D’Ochain. At just three months old she has the making of a star for the future and will likely be shown in 2010.

In 2006 we purchased Ridge Dean Bodacia at the Wilde About Blues sale for 5700gns. Sired by Dafydd D’Ochain, she is out of the Jessie daughter Ridge Dean Valentine. She stood second at the Royal Show in 2007 and went on to take the reserve junior female championship.

In 2008 we invested heavily in superior genetics by first purchasing the yearling heifer Wilodge Cilla, an ET daughter of Wilodge Uptown Girl out of Wilodge Ulex bred by Christine Williams, Shifnal, Shropshire. Cilla was bought as she is everything I admire in a British Blue – size, scale and has the black markings I prefer.

Soon after her purchase, the opportunity came about to buy her mother Wilodge Uptown Girl, along with her daughter Wilodge Cover Girl, again by Ulex.

Uptown Girl was purchased for her sheer size, length and overall power. She is a huge blue and white cow by Baron Du Bois Bauloye out of Bradwell Olivia. She has bred exceptionally well for Christine, so will make a wonderful addition to the Bedgebury females. Uptown Girl was shown in 2009 and was reserve breed champion at the Kent County Show.

Both daughters have already proved to be great additions to the herd. Cover Girl is an incredibly correct, powerful almost all black heifer. She has been shown successfully this year as a two year old heifer and has picked up tickets at many local shows in the south east as well as taking female champion and reserve overall champion at the Royal Show 2009. Cilla took championships this year at Essex where she was interbreed, as well as breed champion ahead of her mother at the Kent County Show.

Full brother of the two heifers Bedgebury Dizzy Rascal was born in June 2008 and has grown in to a correct, well fleshed young bull. He has been shown this year and stood second in an incredibly competitive young bull class at the East of England Show. Dizzy was sold in Carlisle May 2010 for 10,000gns to Messrs Teasdale, Co Durham, for their pedigree and commercial herds.
